A Record of its Beginning and Development
The following is a record of how the Playing Field came into being. It came to light, as did the record of the Village Hall, during the production of the Parish Plan in 2004.
Heather Pettiford decided to make a copy of the written records and newspaper cuttings of the time in recognition of those involved.
Hopefully this record of events will encourage people to use the area so kindly donated to the village by Mr & Mrs F J Burnley.
The land known as Clay Garth is dedicated to the memory of those who served during World War II, in a variety of capacities, as the commemorative stone set in the wall next to the entrance explains.
THIS PLAYING FIELD WAS GIVEN BY F J BURNLEY AND E B BURNLEY TO THE VILLAGE OF HUTTON LE HOLE AS A MEMORIAL TO THOSE WHO SERVED IN THE WAR OF 1939 – 1945 IN THE SERVICES AND IN THE HOMES AND FIELDS AND FACTORIES.
THE WHOLE VILLAGE CONTRIBUTED TO THE LAY OUT OF THE FIELD. THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MADE A VALUED GRANT IN AID. MCML
The inscription on the Playing Field Memorial Stone was restored in 2011 thanks to money received from Participatory Budgeting for Parishes and the LEADER project administered by the NYMNPA.
